Ghost and the Mountain Ash

What turn of thought returned my mind today
to Ghost -- a ghost of my childhood, the first
who showed me how our eyes look looking into death,
and the last my father buried under the Mountain Ash,
the Ash now also ashes after old age?

Even now, I cannot hear these names
as only names. Just say it -- "Ghost," "the Mountain Ash" --
the sound will make my ears my own -- entirely.
